Day Three

Taken up ON BOARD a yacht in our network, where candidates will work with other crew, and get the opportunity to put into practise all the skills they have learned in the first 2 days. This training will be under the watchful eye of a course mentor and/or senior crew members, and will earn you your first reference. Candidates will not get paid for this, but captains are entitled to ‘tip’ exceptional service and initiative. Be the top candidate, and the captain may even ask you to come back the next day for a fully paid day’s work. There may even (in some cases) be a permanent position on the boat, so your performance on this day is crucial. Your reference will decide whether or not you get referred forward.

On my arrival to Palma, the start of my career in the yachting industry I knew no-one and had no idea where to start. I attended an event in order to meet new people, it was here that I first came across Greg Gibson, founder of Calibre crew. He offered me a workshop on a few skills that I used from day to day and in turn helped me find a job and get established in the industry.

I am extremely grateful for all of Calibre Crew's help and I wouldn't be where I am today, running a boat on my own only 2 seasons in. Adam Charnley
